Skimmia japonica Rubella - Large
Availability: Out of stock
Skimmia japonica 'Rubella' is a compact, evergreen shrub loved for its richly coloured, long-lasting winter flower buds and glossy green leaves. In autumn and winter, it produces striking clusters of deep red buds that provide valuable colour through the colder months. These buds open in early spring to reveal fragrant, creamy-white flowers, attracting early pollinators and brightening shaded corners.
Ideal for borders, containers, or woodland gardens, 'Rubella' thrives in moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil and prefers partial to full shade, though it will tolerate some sun if kept moist. Its neat, rounded shape and dense foliage make it perfect for structure and year-round appeal in smaller gardens or patio pots.
Low-maintenance and slow-growing, this Skimmia requires little pruning just remove any damaged or untidy stems after flowering. If you are growing the female form for berries (Skimmia japonica Reevesiana) always plant Skimmia japonica Rubella nearby to ensure a good crop of berry.
Supplied as bushy plants (with buds in Autumn/Winter/Early Spring) in 5 litre containers.
