Schizostylis coccinea 'Major' - River Lily

‘Major’ is a vigorous clump-forming herbaceous perennial that grows from rhizomes. Its grassy light green leaves reach up to sixty centimetres in height and form dense clusters, but it is the stunning red flowers that really make this plant stand out. Appearing in late summer and continuing until autumn the blooms are born in groups on single erect stems and are bright scarlet in colour. Perfect for summer and autumn interest, these vibrant flowers open wide to the sun and close at night.

This eye-catching plant looks stunning at the front of a border or bed displaying its unique colour and contrasting well with other large plants. ‘Major’ works best in a bright border as it thrives in full sun. Make sure it is sheltered from cold winds and planted in moist but well drained soil.
