This garden hibiscus carries large, fully double, powder puff like blooms in creamy pure white, with a maroon-red centre. With an exotic feel it is ideal in a tropical-style garden, but remains equally at home in the herbaceous border.

Also known as Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus speciosus makes a magnificent, hardy, erect 'tree hollyhock' shrub with bright green leaves. It is very easy to grow and low maintenance, requiring absolutely no attention and to top it all, it is one of the most prolific flowering shrubs from mid-late summer into the autumn, coming in to its own when many other shrubs are looking tired, so is perfect to continue displays from mid-summer.

It will thrive in a well drained sunny spot, but is very tolerant of virtually all garden positions except deep shade and waterlogged soils, originating from from east Asia it is absolutely frost hardy as well as being heat tolerant in summer, waiting a couple of weeks after the last Spring frosts have finished before bursting in to leaf each year.
