This shrub is the perfect plant for vibrant autumnal colour! Commonly known as the Scarlet Sumach, Rhus glabra has large alternate oblong leaves which are born on stems up to 45cm long. These leaves turn amazing shades of red, orange, and yellow in autumn before they fall. In summer tiny yellow-green flowers bloom in conical clusters and are followed by eye-catching spherical red berries, on female plants. Its ultimate height and spread is between 1.5-2.5 metres. Loved for its stunning autumn colour this medium-sized deciduous shrub is perfect at the back of a mixed border or as a specimen plant on its own.Â

Scarlet Sumach prefers to be placed in full sun and planted in moist but well-drained soil. A hardy specimen it can establish in exposed or sheltered gardens and can grow in any soil type and pH.Â
