Prunus tomentosa, sometimes referred to as the Manchu or Nanking cherry, is a hardy deciduous shrub that provides appeal throughout the year with its colourful autumn foliage, spring blossoms, and summer fruits. This plant, which is native to Asia, is prized for its delicious fruits as well as its aesthetic appeal. Before the leaves appear, Prunus tomentosa's tiny, fragrant, pinkish-white blooms blanket the branches in early spring, making for a visually arresting and upbeat spectacle. In addition to being exquisite, these blooms draw pollinators to the garden. The plant bears little, vivid red cherries in the early summer, which follow the blossoms. The fruits have a sweet-tart flavour and can be consumed raw or added to pies, jams, and jellies.
Supplied in a 2.5 litre nursery pot.
