Prunus cerasifera, commonly known as Cherry Plum/Myrobalan, is an upright, rounded tree that produces white to pale pink flowers in early spring. This stunning, fast-growing plant makes it a popular choice for hedging and screening. Our pack of 24 bare-root cherry plums arrive ready to plant, standing at 60-80cm height, and will reach an ultimate height of 8-12m. The cherry plum is best pruned in mid-summer to create the perfect hedge size for your garden.
Cherry plums flower in early spring and are fantastic for garden pollinators like bees and hoverflies thanks to their wide-open flowers. Green foliage follows the flowers, providing coverage and screening, and fruit growing to eventually ripen in late summer, providing more food for wildlife. Cherry plums can also be picked and eaten or made into jam.
The cherry plum grows well in most soil with good drainage and copes well in windy and exposed conditions. Depending on your preferred density, we recommend planting 3-5 plants per metre of hedge. One pack of 25 bare root plants can provide 5-8m of hedging.
If conditions are cold, it's best to plant and add mulch, such as bark, and ensure regular watering until the hedging is fully established.
