Flowering rush, or Butomus umbellatus, is a gorgeous aquatic perennial that adds grace and beauty to water gardens and ponds. This plant blooms from mid-summer to early autumn, bearing clusters of delicate pink flowers on tall stems, and has attractive, grass-like foliage. Pollinators find the star-shaped flowers very appealing and they also add a charming touch.

Plant in containers immersed in water up to 30 cm deep, or in shallow water at the edge of ponds. Flowering Rush prefers rich, loamy soil and grows well in both full and partial shade. Water frequently to maintain the plant's moisture content, particularly in arid spells. To keep it looking neat, remove any faded flowers and yellowing leaves.
