Podocarpus alpinus ‘Red Tip’ - Mountain Plum Pine

A great compact evergreen shrub for the smaller garden spaces or even in a container in a balcony setting. Its main attraction is the graceful slender stems whose new shoots are red in colour when young and bear short dark green needle like leaves that turn red in autumn and flushed bronze through winter.

It will tolerate pretty much all soils but will struggle if any are susceptible to water logging, it will tolerate shade but to get the most out of its changes in foliage colour plant in full sun.

This plant looks great in numbers, interplanted in a formal shrub border with plants of contrast. Give it a good compost mulch at the start of the growing season and water in period of extended dry weather.
