Phyllostachys nigra, popularly referred to as black bamboo, is an eye-catching decorative bamboo that is well-known for its rich green leaves and deep black canes that contrast exquisitely. The canes are green at first, but within two to three years they turn a rich, ebony black, giving the plant a dynamic visual interest as it ages.

This species, which may reach a height of five metres, is ideal for garden designs that call for dramatic backdrops, privacy screens, or stand-alone features. In order to avoid shredding its leaves, black bamboo likes a sunny to partially shaded site that is shielded from high winds. It grows best in soil that is well-drained, wet, and rich in organic matter.

Supplied in aprox. 1.5-2.5 litre containers.
