Philadelphus Snowbelle - Compact Mockorange
Availability: In stock
Philadelphus 'Snowbelle' is a delightfully romantic, compact deciduous shrub that drips with fragrant flowers from early to mid-summer. The double blooms are produced in clusters and contrast beautifully with the neat, textured, dark, green foliage and their sweet citrus perfume fills the air on warm summer days and nights. It is happiest in full sun although it will tolerate light shade and is not fussy about soil, except that it must be well-drained, in fact it will grow almost anywhere, making it the ideal choice for difficult spots or city gardens. 'Snowbelle' is not as vigorous or demanding as other philadelphus nor is it as dominant as the taller species, and it is very easy to grow and look after. Like all Philadelphus it flowers on the growth made in the previous year, so prune it immediately after flowering, cutting back the flowering growth and if your plant gets congested, take a third to a quarter of the older stems down to ground level to keep it in good shape.
Â
Planted together in a row, 'Snowbelle' makes a stunning hedging plant but looks equally striking on its own, as a focal point at the front of a border or bringing structure to smaller beds. It is lovely planted together with old-fashioned roses and lavender or other shrubs like hydrangeas and Cistus.
