The peony is a very beautiful, striking, dense, double-pink-to-velvety-red flower of deep rose form. A very fragrant peony of this kind, Paeonia lactiflora 'Kansas', opens with dramatic effect from late spring to early summer. This one has ruffled on each bloom, which stands stiffly upward on each strong stem that will not bend over, perfect for a cut flower arrangement. It grows up to 80 cm high, good at the fronts of borders in a cottage garden or as an accent plant in any group of flowers.
Kansas does well in most well-drained, fertile soils and should be sited in a sunny to partly shaded position, with the surest way being that it receives at least six hours of sunlight daily to have the ultimate flowering of the plants.
