Monarda didyma Cambridge Scarlet - Bergamot

Product ref: P10181

Availability: Out of stock

The Oswego Indians of the eastern United States shared their fondness for Monarda didyma as a tea with colonial settlers. Soon after the Boston Tea Party a shortage of imported tea forced the colonists to substitute Monarda didyma as a tea during the shortage. We recommend growing it for the intense colour it will bring to the garden in mid-late summer. Whorls of rich scarlet red flowers surrounded by brownish red bracts from July to September, and aromatic, mid green leaves. This popular variety of bergamot is perfect for the middle of a sunny, moist, well-drained border. The rich red flowers, which are attractive to bees, associate especially well with the flat flower heads of achillea. Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
