Miscanthus Sinensis - Chinese Silver Grass

Chinese silver grass, or Miscanthus sinensis, is a multipurpose ornamental grass that gives any garden movement and texture. Its year-round interest is provided by the feathery, silver-tinged plumes that adorn its tall, arching stems and emerge in late summer and early winter. The garden's seasonal beauty is enhanced by the slender, green foliage, which frequently takes on a golden hue in the autumn.

Plant Miscanthus sinensis in full sun to partially shaded, well-drained soil. Although it can grow in many kinds of soil, rich, wet environments are ideal for it. To create a deep root system, water frequently during the first growing season and then infrequently thereafter. Before new growth appears, trim the foliage all the way to the ground in late winter or early spring.
