PRE-ORDER: Malus Sylvestris - Crab Apple - Bare Root Hedging 60-80cm - Pack of 12
Availability: In stock
Delve into the rustic charm of Malus sylvestris, more commonly referred to as the Crab Apple, with our pack of 12 bare root hedging plants, standing at 60-80cm tall. This native gem is noted for its beautiful spring blossom that wraps the tree in a delightful meringue of white and pink flowers, followed by the attractive, vibrant fruits that appear in the autumn. Even though small, the fruits are also very important in the serving of wildlife food, adding to the fact that the Crab Apple is a good plant to have in eco-gardens.
Â
Crab apples are very plastic and will do well in any well-drained soil, whether in full sun or partial shade. With its moderate growing habit and eventually broad spreading nature, it does make an outstanding mixed hedge, or indeed, even as a standalone specimen plant, providing interest and privacy throughout the year. Plant in well-drained, fertile soil, and water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. It requires little pruning, needing only the removal of any dead or diseased wood late in the winter or early spring to help encourage healthy growth.
