‘Red Sentinel’ is the perfect medium-sized tree giving you spring blossom and autumn fruit. Beautiful single white flowers appear in abundance in spring and are followed by clusters of cherry-like, deep red fruits which remain well into winter. This is a deciduous tree which displays bright yellow autumn colour as its deep green foliage changes colour before falling. Its ultimate height and spread can lie anywhere between 4 to 8 metres but it can be easily kept as a small specimen. This Crabapple tree is well suited to a border planting scheme or solo planting in a lawn or container.

A versatile plant ‘Red Sentinel’ can grow in any soil pH or type but needs to be planted in moist but well drained soil. It will thrive in full sun or partial shade and can tolerate an exposed or sheltered area.

Supplied in approx. 3 litre containers at around 80-100cm tall

Care

The primary intended use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption.

There are thousands of different plant species that can be consumed, and our extensive range is no exception. We have conveniently listed a large number of edible plants here. Additionally, we have compiled several articles and handy recipes for some of the plants you are less likely to find in supermarkets.

We always recommend conducting your own research before consuming any plant to understand the various ways different varieties can be prepared and consumed. Be mindful of potential allergies when trying anything new and ensure it is suitable for all who may be consuming it.

Some plants or varieties can also be cultivated as animal feed for livestock, such as poultry, game, and livestock reared for consumption. Again, we advise doing your own research to select the most appropriate plants for your livestock.

Please note that this plant is sold with VAT charged at 0%. If you are a VAT-registered business, ensure this is properly included in your VAT return.

Known for its ornamental qualities, this crab apple provides year-round interest. An attractive display of spring flowers is followed by clusters of red apples, pleasing for both you and wildlife! Winner of RHS Award of Garden Merit!

This crab apple is a very adaptable species and is suitable for all soil types, best in moist but well drained soil. Position your tree in sunny position, or with partial shade. This strong species can be planted in an exposed site or sheltered and is suitable for all aspects.

Requiring low maintenance, your tree will keep its best shape with an annual prune in late winter or early spring. Specifically, remove any shoots which have crossed over or congested the tree, as well as damaged and diseased branches. An annual mulch after pruning will supress any competing weeds, hold down moisture and add organic matter to the soil.
