Malus John Downie - Crabapple
Availability: Out of stock
The John Downie Crabapple is a strong vigorous small to medium Malus tree that reaches a height and spread of up to eight metres, grown for an ornamental garden feature.
In spring an abundance of pink buds opens into white flowers in the spring, making for an impressive display. This is followed by three centimetre red and orange yellow fruits that cover the plants crown and are offset against the delicate narrow oval green leaves. Good autumn colour is also a feature of this Malus.
Like all Crab Apples as long as it the soil drains properly, they will grow in the full range of substrates and are also happy in all four aspects. Windy sites and partial shade are also not a problem to this plant; as well as being beautiful, it is also incredibly adapted to all garden conditions.
This Malus would be perfect for a Cottage Garden theme, a focal point in any border or vista or placed in a lawn surrounded bed.
Supplied as established plants growing in approx. 2 litre containers.
