A grandiflora variety ‘Ferruginea’ is loved for its large attractive scented flowers. It is an amazing bushy tree with evergreen beautiful glossy dark green leaves. All the way from summer through to autumn the large scented, cup-shaped white flowers bloom in masses over its architectural branches and fill your garden with a lovely, sweet fragrance.

 

‘Ferruginea’ is set apart from other Magnolias with the flowering season much later in the year than the traditional varieties and giving your garden much needed autumn blooms. This tree is also an evergreen, so its glossy deep green leaves remain all year round and provide further interest with their brown shaded undersides. This tree has an ultimate height and spread between 4-8 meters and can be pruned to remain small. Perfect for year-round interest and late flowers plant ‘Ferruginea’ at the back of a mixed border or on its own as a specimen tree.

 

A versatile Magnolia, this plant can grow in any soil type as long as it is moist but well-drained soil. They work best in sheltered areas away from cold winds and in full sun or partial shade.
