White Maltese Cross, or Lychnis chalcedonica 'Albiflora,' is a pretty perennial that lends a sense of purity and grace to any garden. This variety blooms profusely from early to mid-summer and has clusters of small white flowers shaped like stars. A delightful addition to borders, cottage gardens, and wildflower meadows, 'Albiflora's' upright stems and bright green foliage create a striking contrast.
Â
Plant in full sun to partially shaded, well-drained soil. Throughout the growing season, water frequently, letting the soil dry out in between applications. Deadhead spent flowers to keep them looking neat and to promote continuous blooming. After flowering, trim back the stems to encourage new growth. Combine with other summer-blooming perennials such as campanulas and delphiniums to create a lovely, traditional garden arrangement.
