Lobelia cardinalis - Cardinal flower

A very striking upright clump forming herbaceous perennial which happily tolerates poorly drained soil making it perfect for pondside planting or that hard to plant waterlogging soil.

It has handsome glossy bright green oblong leaves and mid-summer show stopping bright red spikes of flowers and these will stay on show until the autumn. The whole plant in flower is majestic.

It will recede for the winter months, retreating under the soil but not before a flush of autumn colour.
