This compact, slow growing Acer is the ideal plant to give you all year-round colour with intricate foliage and beautiful architectural stems. The intricate foliage of this striking maple emerges a vibrant red in spring, and as it ages it deepens in colour becoming a lovely dark red in summer. In the autumn the leaves brighten again turning a blazing crimson and giving wonderful seasonal colour before they fall. There is also winter interest in this Acer as it’s bright red sculptural stems stand out and will give your garden a vibrant colour during those duller months. It’s compact and dense habit makes it the perfect Acer for container planting on a patio or terrace, but it is equally striking in a border adding structure and colour contrast.Â
This shrub is low maintenance, thriving on any type of soil as long as it is moist but well-drained. Growing best in full-sun or partial-shade, ‘Shaina’ requires a sheltered area from cold winds.Â
