A wonderful Hydrangea variety with huge flowers, often found in high class florist bouquets, it has really massive blooms.
Supplied as powerful well established plants in approx 5 litre containers, these are larger plants, and great value for a specimen of this size and age. Cut to near ground level over winter each year, and they will then throw up masses of strong new stems and big blooms each summer. Our plants are very strong and ready to grow away with vigour.
Hydrangeas put on good amounts of healthy growth each year and quickly establish, and produce massive, bright flower clusters even when planted in a dull, shady spot. You can also use them as cut or dried flowers too.
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Amethyst' is prized for its unique, brilliant amethyst blooms and is a truly outstanding mophead Hydrangea that will produce an ever-changing show all summer. The flower clusters open lime green, then develop pink shades that will slowly engulf the petals, becoming a darker reddish pink. Finally, the pink shades will fade away and the green colour will return. If you have acid soil, instead of pink, you'll have blue flowers, or a shade somewhere beftween this and pink - hence 'Amethyst' becomes a very apt name. A sensation Hydrangea, not to be missed, this is a low maintenance and robust variety that will make an excellent impact plant in containers and the border where it will be the jewel of your summer display.
