Availability: Out of stock
Here's something completely different that your neighbours won't have!
This South American native to Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina grows on the forest floor from 2,300 to 3,000 feet elevation, so is therefore surprisingly frost tolerant when planted in free draining soil, alternatively keep indoors as a first rate houseplant.
A vigourous grower, this bromeliad is very easy to take care of, forming clumps of narrow sword shaped foliage The circa 50cm tall rosettes of foliage hold foot long slender leaves that have small teeth along the margins. In spring arching flower stems hang down consisting of attractive bright pink bracts, with the actual flowers are chartreuse green edged in royal blue. They exude tear-like droplets of nectar, thus giving it its common name.
One of the most reliably hardy Bromeliad species available, plant in full or partial shade in a well-drained organic rich soil and water occasionally. To keep it outside over winter, ensure it is planted in to the soil so the roots are protected as pots can freeze, and mulch well.
Supplied growing in approx 3 litre containers. Use in beds and borders or patio planters.
