Hamamelis Birgit - Witch Hazel - Large
Availability: In stock
Hamamelis 'Birgit' is a stunning deciduous witch hazel that brings colour and fragrance to the winter garden. From January to March, it produces ribbon-like, deep crimson to purple-red flowers with a spicy scent, blooming directly on bare branches when little else is in flower. These eye-catching blooms brighten even the dullest winter days and provide valuable early nectar for pollinators.
In spring, fresh green, softly textured leaves emerge, creating a lush summer presence. Come autumn, the foliage turns brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red, adding yet another season of interest. With its upright, vase-shaped habit, 'Birgit' is ideal as a specimen shrub in mixed borders, woodland settings, or winter-themed gardens.
Thriving in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, it prefers a sunny to partially shaded position, sheltered from harsh winds. Minimal pruning is required, simply remove any dead or damaged branches after flowering. Pair with evergreen shrubs, snowdrops, or Cornus for a beautifully layered winter display.
Supplied well branched, covered in buds in season, in approx 7-10 litre containers.
