There is also winter interest in this Acer as it’s bright red sculptural stems stand out and will give your garden a vibrant colour during those duller months, even after ‘Twombly’s Red Sentinel’ loses its leaves. It’s a great choice for container planting on patios and can add structure to a border.

This acer is easy to grow preferring partial shade or full sun. Place in moist but well drained soil in a sheltered area to protect from cold winds and leaf scorching.

Care

The primary intended use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption.

There are thousands of different plant species that can be consumed, and our extensive range is no exception. We have conveniently listed a large number of edible plants here. Additionally, we have compiled several articles and handy recipes for some of the plants you are less likely to find in supermarkets.

We always recommend conducting your own research before consuming any plant to understand the various ways different varieties can be prepared and consumed. Be mindful of potential allergies when trying anything new and ensure it is suitable for all who may be consuming it.

Some plants or varieties can also be cultivated as animal feed for livestock, such as poultry, game, and livestock reared for consumption. Again, we advise doing your own research to select the most appropriate plants for your livestock.

Please note that this plant is sold with VAT charged at 0%. If you are a VAT-registered business, ensure this is properly included in your VAT return.

This tree is very adaptable, comfortable in all soil types, growing best in moist but well-drained soil, which is neutral or acidic. The tree can be grown in full sun or partial shade, best in a sheltered position with an east, south or west facing aspect.

A low maintenance plant, your maple will benefit from an annual prune in late winter or early spring. Specifically, remove any shoots which have crossed over or congested the plant, as well as damaged and diseased branches.

An annual mulch after pruning will supress any competing weeds, hold down moisture and add organic matter to the soil.
