Acer griseum - Paperbark Maple
Availability: In stock
The Paper Bark Maple - Acer griseum - commands attention and much love thanks to it tactile cinnamon shaded peeling bark.
The peeling bark layers can be paper-thin and translucent in sunlight adding an enchanting effect as they twist and curl ornately against the trunk of the tree.
This provides particular interest in winter as much as the rest of the year. Foliage is a good bold green, lobed and shapely, transitioning to a firework of colour from pink to bright red before they finally fall in Autumn.
A smaller growing tree, it will reach a height and spread of around 4-5 metres over 20 years. It is slow growing, so easily maintained at a diminutive size if desired, and is a great choice of smaller gardens.
Acer griseum was originally brought to the UK from China in 1901, and the original tree is thought to be one planted at the world famous Westonbirt Arboretum. The RHS has given this tree Award of Garden Merit too, assuring you of a solid easy care plant for your garden, it will grow in both sunny or partially shaded locations and will do well in most well drained soils. Supplied at circa 120-150cms tall in approx 5 litre containers.
