Fargesia murielae 'Luca' - Dwarf Fountain Bamboo
Availability: Out of stock
Fargesias come from upland areas of China and have thin, colourful canes topped by a fountain of fine foliage.
Fargesia murielae 'Luca' is a new non-invasive bamboo that makes impressive ground cover, it is a low, slowly spreading, evergreen bamboo that is perfect in relatively inhospitable situations.
A previous contenders for Chelsea Flower Show Plant of The Year award, it is a wonderful plant, and probably didn't win due to simply being a lot less flamboyant than all the flowering contenders. There is no doubt that it is a really useful garden plant, reaching no more than 50cm in height, ‘Luca’ develops a crowded mass of slender woody canes that are green at first and then become rather yellowish.
They make an impressive, exceptionally tight, weed-suppressing mass of growth and each is topped with narrow, slightly waved, pointed leaves that overlap to create a dense cover.
‘Luca’ is quite different from our best selling umbrella bamboo from which it’s derived - that would reach two to three metres in height over time, but Luca will never reach these heady heights.
We also love Luca as an unusual, tolerant, evergreen container plant - it’s reliable hardiness ensures that it will thrive in containers in chilly situations.
Good sized plants, Supplied in approx. 2-3 Litre containers.
