Echinops - Ritro 'Blue Glow' - Globe Thistle

Globe thistle, or Echinops ritro 'Blue Glow,' is a distinctive perennial that gives a garden a splash of colour and texture. From midsummer to early autumn, it produces spherical steel-blue flower heads that contrast sharply with the deeply lobed grey-green foliage. This plant is a wonderful addition to pollinator-friendly gardens because it not only adds visual interest but also attracts butterflies and bees.

Plant Echinops ritro 'Blue Glow' in full sun to partially shaded, well-drained soil. Once established, it is very drought-tolerant and grows well in soil that is poor to moderately fertile. To create a deep root system, water frequently during the first growing season and then infrequently thereafter. To promote more blooming, deadhead spent blooms and trim back the stems in late autumn.
