Cyclamen hederifolium purpureum - Autumn Flowering Hardy PURPLE Cyclamen

Product ref: DEAL800918

Availability: Out of stock

These hardy plants will really get under the skin despite their diminutive appearance. With their pretty, marbled, heart-shaped leaves and upright fragrant flowers, these easy to grow hardy cyclamen have a long season of interest before disappearing below ground over the summer. Cyclamen hederifolium is fully hardy, and grows from a small bulb flowering in late summer and autumn here in the UK.

The flowers of this autumn-flowering cyclamen often appear well before the leaves, which form a pretty carpet after the flowers have finished. Although they are usually planted in shade, these cyclamen originate from the Mediterranean, so are equally happy in sun. Given well-drained soil they will naturalise happily in grass or under deciduous shrubs and trees. The charming flowers rise above carpets of silvery marbled foliage with the brightness of the colour seemingly even more vibrant on drab autumnal days.

This  hardy Cyclamen is found in the mountains of Turkey, the Caucasus and northern Iran, and varies widely in the wild, as in cultivation, with flower colour from pure white through soft pink to rose pink and purple. It is happiest in well-drained soil under deciduous shrubs or trees where it is perfect used to naturalise on its own or with other plants that offer autumnal interest. It can also be used to great effect in seasonal patio displays. Why not try planted en masse in a woodland setting with ferns and other shade-tolerant plants or around the base of deciduous trees.

Strong plants supplied in approx. 10.5cm pots in bud and coming in to flower in season.
