RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2016!
There was some pretty stiff competition, but this lovely new Clematis from Dutch breeder Marco de Wit was voted the winner of the coveted RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2016. It is a cracking variety that flowers May-June then comes again for a second flush in September.
The judges loved the soft yellow flowerheads, which sometimes have a faint pink blush to the edges. These nodding gems appear over a relatively long period too - usually from early to midsummer, and then with a second flush in early autumn. It's not too big, so is perfect for trailing up an obelisk, and can even be grown in a large patio pot. The nodding flowers with a hint of pink on the backs are produced profusely, these are then followed by great seed heads that follow on as the flowers finish, so it looks attractive even when its not in flower.
Clematis Amber can be planted in any aspect, and will grow just as well in a pot or a planter as it will in a garden situation. Reaching 6-8 feet tall, it's a very manageable plant, lending itself to trellis, obelisks, walls, fences, arches and many more features that you'll want to clothe with this beauty.
As a further bonus, no pruning is needed, just an occasional trim to clip any odd wayward shoots.
Supplied in approx 2 litre containers as flowering sized plants.
