Carpinus Betulus - Hornbeam - Hedging

Product ref: K24896

Availability: In stock

Because Carpinus betulus, sometimes called hornbeam, has dense, leafy branches that, when clipped, form a sturdy, green wall, it is a great choice for hedging. Its leaves are vivid green in the spring and summer and change a stunning golden yellow in the autumn before holding onto their fading brown foliage to become a winter showpiece. Clay and heavy soils are especially ideal for hornbeam, which can grow in both full sun and moderate shade.

This sturdy plant is adaptable to both formal and casual garden designs because it can be trimmed to maintain any desired size, even though it can reach substantial heights. Plant hornbeam in well-drained soil and water frequently to create a broad, deep root system for optimal results. It just needs to be pruned once a year, making maintenance simple.

Supplied in approx. 2 litre containers.
