Callistemon rigidus

Commonly known as stiff bottlebrush, Callistemon rigidus is a reliable evergreen shrub providing you with summer colour and amazing architectural branches. This bottle brush has a bushy, upright habit with its arched branches covered in long, narrow, pointed mid-green leaves which remain all year round. Long panicles or spikes of vibrant red flowers appear in late spring and early summer, contrasting wonderfully against the bright foliage. These blooms are great for attracting birds and are followed by distinct button-like seeds. In some frost free areas this shrub will flower intermittently throughout the year giving you even more colour! With an ultimate height and spread of 3 metres we recommend planting this at the edge or back of a mixed border, although it works equally well as a specimen plant.

Make sure to place this shrub in full sun or light shade as this will encourage better flowering. It establishes best in most but well-drained soils and is drought tolerant. Make sure to place in a sheltered position away from cold winter winds.
