Betula utilis jacquemontii, commonly known as the Himalayan Birch, is celebrated for its stunning white bark that exudes elegance throughout the year. Renowned for its striking, peeling bark that becomes more pronounced and eye-catching as the tree ages, this deciduous tree adds a touch of sophistication to any space. The bark initially peels to a cream and gradually becomes whiter as the bark below ages.

This tree has an upright and spreading habit with its strong crown holding the characteristic ovate Birch leaves, which gradually turn stunning shades of yellow throughout autumn. It can also bear beautiful yellow-brown catkins up to 12cm long in early spring. This tree has an ultimate height between 12 and 18 metres and spread of 2 to 4 metres, making it the perfect architectural tree for seasonal interest, variation, and summer elegance.

Make sure to place this tree in full sun or partial shade as this will encourage growth and give you the best seasonal colour. Himalayan Birch thrives in well-drained soils and is resilient against most pests and diseases. It is fully hardy so can be grown in exposed or sheltered gardens.

Often seen planted in groups close together, or as a glade with multiple specimens, they look great on their own, or also combine well with other plants grown for their bright bark, such as the orange Cornus Midwinter Winter or red Cornus alba sibirica.

This pack of THREE young trees will be perfect to plant and enable you to re-create any of the effects pictured as they grow and the white barn develops. Supplied in approx 3 litre containers at around 150-180cm tall.

The primary intended use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption.

There are thousands of different plant species that can be consumed, and our extensive range is no exception. We have conveniently listed a large number of edible plants here. Additionally, we have compiled several articles and handy recipes for some of the plants you are less likely to find in supermarkets.

We always recommend conducting your own research before consuming any plant to understand the various ways different varieties can be prepared and consumed. Be mindful of potential allergies when trying anything new and ensure it is suitable for all who may be consuming it.

Some plants or varieties can also be cultivated as animal feed for livestock, such as poultry, game, and livestock reared for consumption. Again, we advise doing your own research to select the most appropriate plants for your livestock.

Please note that this plant is sold with VAT charged at 0%. If you are a VAT-registered business, ensure this is properly included in your VAT return.

To ensure plenty of branching and a good shape we prune out the main leader of these at around the 1.5m metre mark during the tree production process in the nursery so you get plenty of branches generated from below this lower down the trunk, right where you want them to originate for a visual feast of colourful bark as the tree develops. It is then possible to create a single trunked tree by allowing only one main leader to grow, or you can create a multi-stemmed tree by more selective pruning.
