Yes, you smell it right, this is Basil, an Ocimum Basil to be exact, probably known to you as the Thai Basil. With a wonderful fragrance and beautiful purple flowers you'll love to have this plant on your terrace or patio. The scents and colours also attract butterflies and bees to your garden. 

In "the wild" Basil can be found in, of course, Southeast Asia, but also in Africa and South America. Throughout history, Basil has played a role in several cultures, being seen as a sacred herb in India, for example.

This tree produces such a vast array of flowers each year, it seems to disappear under its own beautiful blooms. Ideally it should be placed in a sunny sheltered spot on the patio or balcony.
