Enjoy early and abundant harvests with Red Windsor, one of the best self-fertile dessert apple varieties for home gardens. This reliable tree produces attractive, red-flushed apples with a crisp bite and a sweet, aromatic flavour reminiscent of Cox’s Orange Pippin, but with better disease resistance and easier care. Fruit ripens from late summer to early autumn and keeps well for several weeks. Red Windsor is self-fertile (pollination group 2), ideal for smaller gardens or as a standalone tree. Prune annually in winter to encourage healthy growth and consistent cropping. Grow with Discovery or Egremont Russet for a deliciously varied and long-lasting apple harvest.

Supplied as strong bare root trees grafted on a MM106 rootstock, this produces a tree of moderate vigour suitable for most situations where fruit is of a nice pickable height. Trees are easily maintained at a manageable size and never reach more than around 12ft tall.

The primary intended use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption.

There are thousands of different plant species that can be consumed, and our extensive range is no exception. We have conveniently listed a large number of edible plants here. Additionally, we have compiled several articles and handy recipes for some of the plants you are less likely to find in supermarkets.

We always recommend conducting your own research before consuming any plant to understand the various ways different varieties can be prepared and consumed. Be mindful of potential allergies when trying anything new and ensure it is suitable for all who may be consuming it.

Some plants or varieties can also be cultivated as animal feed for livestock, such as poultry, game, and livestock reared for consumption. Again, we advise doing your own research to select the most appropriate plants for your livestock.
