Delight in the rich, nutty flavour of Herefordshire Russet, a modern take on the traditional russet apple. This compact dessert variety produces golden-bronze fruit with a firm, crisp texture and a sweet, aromatic taste—ideal for eating fresh or adding character to salads and cheese boards. Harvested in mid to late autumn, the apples store well into winter, making it a practical and flavoursome choice for home orchards. Herefordshire Russet is a reliable cropper and self-fertile (pollination group 3), meaning it doesn’t require a partner, though fruiting can be enhanced with other apple trees nearby. Prune in winter to maintain shape and vigour. Grow alongside Egremont Russet or Fiesta for a varied harvest with outstanding flavour and texture.

Supplied as strong bare root trees grafted on a MM106 rootstock, this produces a tree of moderate vigour suitable for most situations where fruit is of a nice pickable height. Trees are easily maintained at a manageable size and never reach more than around 12ft tall.
